An important responsibility for being a good citizen is to help people, and there are always people in need of help whether it is helping an elderly person cross the road or calling the emergency services. Our jobs as good citizens are to help those kinds of people as little actions can make a difference. Another thing that is also an important trait for being a good citizen is to have an active participation in the community; this can be promoted by volunteering. Volunteer’s can make people good citizens because if some people have a negative impact on the community and the volunteers work with them(at a youth club, etc) then they can help them get along with others and help participate in the community. This benefits the public services because the paid staff can go do other things that help to positivley impact the community and also if the volunteers work well then they might hire him/her. Examples of volunteers in the Public Services are: Special Constables, Territorial Army, Retained Fire Fighters and even volunteering in the St John Ambulance Service.
