I believe that the traits to be an effective leader are establishing trust, being specific and brief, don’t criticize anyone, and ask, don’t tell. Odysseus is a skilled leader because he convinced his crew to stab Polyphemus in the eye by “leaning into a hot metal rod, turning it as a shipwright turns a drill in planking, having men below to swing the two-handled strap that spins it in the groove” (382). He also is Odysseus does have some flaws that are identified as hubris (excessive pride), that majorly impacted their journey. Some of these flaws were sleeping with Kalypso and Circe, his cruelty towards the suitors, and after slaughtering the suitors he hung the maids.
