Periodontal disease causes inflammation and destruction of the supporting structures around the teeth. Millions of individuals have periodontal disease and don’t even know they have the disease. This silent and often painless disease can be more then just a gum infection. It can cause severe damage to the gunms, bone support structure, and even tooth loss. More and more studies have shown that periodontal disease can affect your overall health. When symptoms do occur, often times its bleeding when brushing,sensitive teeth, bad breath. Later on symptoms can lead to loose teeth and gum abscesses. The bacterial plaque accumulates at the gum line which then creates inflammation, leading to destroyed gums and the bone around the teeth.If the disease is not treated it could also lead to tooth loss. More studies have been linking the level of inflammation in the oral cavity diseases to heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and even stroke.
