There are many reasons why Shakespeare added the witches in Macbeth

There are many reasons why Shakespeare added the witches in Macbeth. They are basically what makes the story moves forward. Which makes them the reason for all the events that happens throughout the play. Finally, they are also in there to entertain the audience.
The witches play a role in the storyline by affecting Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, persuading them to perform actions which; otherwise, they would not. The first prophecies that Macbeth hear is: “All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, that shalt be king hereafter.” Shortly after, he is already thinking of killing King Duncan. Then, the witches say that Banquo’s sons will be kings. This doesn’t delight Macbeth, because his son won’t be King. Also, later in the play, Macbeth hire murderers to kill Fleance. So little happened but the consequences are already enormous.
